Incredibly helpful, Patrick. Thank you. I've felt a very deep resistance to certain parts of myself lately and I have some pretty bad self-talk that shuns these parts of myself. You know, the shy socially awkward side that I wish could just talk to people with more confidence. Your quote “The part of us we want to change is the part that wants to be accepted” is very helpful and eye-opening for me. I have to accept that part of myself. Only then will I have a better relationship with it. Am I getting it right?
Gratitude for your comment, and I'm glad it resonates with you.
Yes Thomas, that's it. It's a skill to develop, since at first, it feels like a contradiction to accept something we want to get rid of. The key is to transform "I want to get rid of" into "It's okay the way it is". This is needed to allow the change to happen. Since as long as we're in denial, we resist.
Patrick, thanks for the hat tip, much appreciated, and also for the link to your essay where I found many interesting thoughts including this one, " “The part of us we want to change is the part that wants to be accepted”" , in my alone moments i'm quite content with myself but it's the social moments where i seek improvement. Nicely stated, Patrick.
You're more than welcome! The journeys you're sharing just fit into what I believe we need to become aware of ourselves being actually connected and part of the whole; of life. Sincere gratitude for your sharings 🙏 And don't worry about the social anxiety... It only exists because we believe we have to be and be perceived in a certain way. You are already as beautiful and complete as all the marvelous creatures and species that you share with us 🍀
